Key points
- Bus gates and restrictions
- Huge numbers of pedestrians
- Hospital traffic
- Practised with dual controls
The road through the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Large parts are restricted to buses, cycles and taxis at set times, with segregated cycle lanes and bus-stop islands.
Where it is
Oxford Road — St Peter's Square and the universities to Rusholme.
What catches learners out
- Bus gates and restrictions. Read the signs before you turn in — getting it wrong can mean a fine once you've passed.
- Huge numbers of pedestrians. Students cross everywhere; expect people stepping out between buses.
- Hospital traffic. Ambulances use this corridor — move over safely and never stop on a crossing to let one through.
How we teach it
We show you the legal routes around the restricted sections and practise the junctions that ordinary cars can use.
