What changes for learners

  • Lights, not give-way. Your decision is now about the signals and the junction ahead being clear — not gaps from the right.
  • Cycle lanes. Check for cyclists on your left before turning left, and don't stop in advanced stop boxes.
  • Pedestrians. Students cross here in large numbers at the start and end of the day. Give way to people crossing the road you're turning into.

Why it matters for your test

Shirley test routes reach this side of Solihull. A junction that changed recently is exactly where people revert to old habits.

Checked October 2026 — roadworks and temporary limits change often; always obey the signs on the day.
